Welcome to Woodhenge Class
Welcome to term 2. This term we are focussing on geography by trying to answer the questions "Why Visit Italy?" We will also be heading out of the atmosphere to learn about space and our solar system in science.
In music, we are learning to play recorders whilst learning some Bossa Nova Jazz. If your child would like to buy their own recorder they can bring it to school (named) and leave in their tray until Christmas.
In Maths, we are looking at multiplication, area and perimeter before recapping some other core skills including continuing to practise times tables to ensure we have quick recall.
Our English Text is called "A Galaxy of Her Own" which is a selection of non-fiction pages about women involved with space research, travel, engineering and study. We are writing persusasive texts including letters and adverts as well as writing a non-fiction report.
On a Wednesday afternoons, Year 5 have PE (tag rugby and hockey) so children need to come to school dressed in PE kit ready for the day. Normal PE kit is great but we are happy for children to have plain black/navy jogging bottoms and a dark shade sweatshirt to keep warm on those cooler days. Children may require additional layers to keep themselves warm during the afternoon.
This term, Year 5 will be completing forest school sessions with Miss Wildman. On alternate Thursday afternoons, children will need to come to school dressed in clothes that can get wet and muddy. We will be outside for Forest School whatever the weather so warm layers, hats, gloves, waterproofs are advised. Woodhenge Forest School dates are:
If you have any questions, please talk to the class teachers who are available at the school gate (Year 5 entrance on Kitchener Road alongside the Staff Car Park).
