Home learning has an important role to play in reinforcing and extending the learning and teaching that has taken place in the classroom. It is a vital link in the working partnership between children, parents and staff.
Home learning should not be a stressful experience for you or your child. If you are experiencing problems with home learning please talk to your child's class teacher and let us know how we can support you.

Our aims of home learning
- Encourages a sense of purpose and achievement.
- Provides a point of contact with parents and takes advantage of all kinds of resources for learning at home.
- Is a means of reinforcing what has been learnt in school.
- Is a vehicle for parental involvement, developing an effective partnership between the school and parents and other carers in pursuing the aims of the school.
- Is a means of developing good study habits and the self-discipline needed to study on their own.
- Encourages a sense of ownership and of responsibility for learning.
The responsibility of the children
- To make the time to complete work carefully and well.
- To discuss difficulties with the teacher as soon as they arise.
- To ensure parents know the task(s) to be completed and ask for support if necessary.
- To complete the tasks set to the same standard as they would in class.
- To complete their work in pencil or appropriate blue pen (no felt-tip or coloured/gel pens).
- To hand in completed work on or before the due date.
The role of parents and carers in supporting their children
- Provide a reasonably peaceful, suitable place in which the children can do their home learning – alone, or for younger children, together with an adult.
- Make it clear to their children that they value home learning and support the school in explaining how it can help their learning.
- Encourage their children and praise them when they have completed home learning.
Home Learning should only take approximately 15/20 minutes in KS1 and 20/30 minutes in KS2
