COUNSELLING

School Counselling Service

Amesbury Primary buys into the services of a professionally trained counsellor, who offers pupils a special place to come and talk about anything that may be worrying them.  To help build trust between the counsellor and pupil counselling sessions are confidential, unless there are legitimate grounds to share information.  Christine Jacobs, our counsellor, works alongside other qualified professionals to help children deal with the following kinds of issues:

  • Low self-esteem/confidence
  • Anxiety and fear
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationships
  • Anger
  • Bullying
  • Self harm
  • Eating disorders
  • Abuse
  • Trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Work related issues/work life balance
  • Depression

In addition to the above the School employs a trained ELSA.

ELSAs

ELSAs are Emotional Literacy Support Assistants. They are teaching assistants who have received specific additional training from educational psychologists from whom they receive on going supervision following training.  Their role is to support children and young people in school to understand and regulate their own emotions whilst also respecting the feelings of those around them.

We run several ELSA groups for children who may need extra support with managing their emotions and feelings.
